Kruja wildfires trigger aerial firefighting response

Wildfires continue to impact the Kruja region in Albania, with new flames appearing in the Gryka e Zidollit area. Due to steep terrain and a lack of road access, firefighting forces have had to rely on aerial intervention to isolate and extinguish the blazes.

In the Abazë neighborhood, active fires have threatened residential areas and businesses, covering significant forest surfaces. Two helicopters have been deployed to drop water near Abazë and the Bojë area near Zidollit. While the situation is being monitored to prevent further spread, the fires have already caused material damage.

In a related development, 73-year-old Qemal Berhami, who had been arrested two days prior on suspicion of involvement in starting the Abazë fires, has been released from custody and returned to his home. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the origin of the fires.
