Krustkalni fire victims appeal police decision to end criminal investigation

Lawyers representing a family affected by a tragic fire in Krustkalni, Kekava municipality, have filed a complaint with the prosecution regarding the State Police's decision to terminate the criminal process. The legal team, led by attorney Karīna Landmesere of the Landmesere law office, is contesting the police finding that no criminal offense occurred.

The State Police stated that a thorough investigation was conducted, including the questioning of over 25 people and various technical and chemical expertises. Despite these efforts, the police concluded that the evidence did not support criminal charges.

The family's legal representatives have expressed confusion regarding expert findings suggesting the fire was likely caused by an ‘abnormal operating mode of electrical equipment.’ A press conference is scheduled for August 26 to address the matter, with the law office inviting various government officials and representatives from SIA Fortium and SIA Krustkalnu projekts to attend.
