Krynica hosts granddaughter of local historical figure Franciszek Żurek

Barbara, the granddaughter of Franciszek Żurek, visited Krynica on August 26 alongside her son, Mateusz. The visit was intended to honor the memory and heritage of Żurek, who is the patron of the Rural Culture House in Krynica.

During the visit, they were accompanied by Jerzy Pastuszak, a councilor from the Krasnystaw commune. The group visited the Franciszek Żurek Rural Culture House and the Ariańska Tower to connect with local history and family legacy.

Franciszek Żurek was a historical figure born in 1895 who became involved in independence activities at a young age. He was a member of the Flying Units and participated in the creation of the Polish Military Organization and the National Lublin Department. Following the Soviet aggression against Poland in 1939, he was deported to the Kresy region. After being released under amnesty, he traveled toward his homeland but died of typhus in Uzbekistan in 1942. A commemorative plaque for Żurek is located in Krynica.
