Cryoneri: Man injured in aggressive wolf attack

A man, Thanasis Linardos, was injured during an aggressive wolf attack while walking in a forested area near Cryoneri, Greece. The victim reported that the animal lunged at him repeatedly, leading to an eight-minute struggle. After attempting to shield himself behind a tree trunk, Linardos slipped and fell, at which point the wolf bit him. He eventually managed to repel the animal using a stick and a stone.

The incident has prompted scientific investigation. Researchers from the environmental organization Kallisto are conducting DNA analysis on saliva samples collected from the victim's clothing to determine if the animal was a wolf, a wolf-dog hybrid, or a member of a specific monitored pack.

Notably, the victim stated the animal was wearing a tracking collar with a flashing red light, a detail that aligns with previous efforts by environmental groups to monitor local wildlife. This event follows a pattern of increasing wolf sightings and human encounters in the Cryoneri and Vryompi area, including a previous incident involving a runner earlier this year.
