Krystyna Czubówna turns 72, reflects on never marrying and solo parenting

Polish voice‑over artist Krystyna Czubówna celebrated her 72nd birthday on 2 August 2026. Known for her distinctive narration in nature programmes, she has long used the surname Czubówna, a traditional feminine form derived from her father's name.

Czubówna studied law before entering radio after winning a casting competition. There she met long‑time partner Bogusław Barjas, a sound engineer; the couple never formalised their relationship but had a daughter, Agnieszka, in 1980. In the summer she ended the partnership, citing his frequent absence and a desire to protect their child. She subsequently raised Agnieszka alone while maintaining a demanding broadcasting career. Czubówna said she sometimes regretted the split but also considered it the wisest choice for her life.
