Krzysztof Rutkowski regains detective license following police error

Polish detective Krzysztof Rutkowski has regained his professional license after a long period of suspension. Rutkowski had been unable to use a detective license since 2009, a decision that was reportedly based on a mistake by the Łódź police.

Investigations revealed that the original 2009 decision to invalidate the license actually concerned a different individual with the same name and surname from a different city in the Łódź province. While the police have confirmed that an error occurred, the Provincial Police Commander in Łódź declined to overturn the original decision because more than five years had passed without a formal appeal.

Rutkowski, a well-known media figure involved in high-profile cases such as the disappearance of Madzia from Sosnowiec, has faced various legal challenges and controversies during his career. In addition to the licensing issue, his agency, Biuro Rutkowski, became the subject of a prosecution investigation in late 2025 following allegations of fraud from clients.
