KSAT begins Hyperion demonstrations for hybrid RF and optical relay services

Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) has launched the first demonstration campaigns for Hyperion, a pathfinder mission for its upcoming HYPER hybrid radio frequency (RF) and optical relay network. The mission aims to validate operational services for the commercial HYPER network through testing with satellite operators, technology providers, and institutional partners.

The Hyperion satellites will utilize optical terminals from Rocket Lab and Sony Space Communications Corp. (SSCC) to demonstrate optical payload relay and inter-satellite communication links. On the RF side, the mission will test S-band connectivity for telemetry, tracking, and command, alongside Ka-band communications for payload data relay. These demonstrations are intended to prove how RF and optical links can function as complementary components within a single relay network to meet diverse operational requirements.
