Ksi Lisims LNG, a proposed floating liquefied natural gas project on British Columbia’s north coast, has signed a long‑term sale and purchase agreement with German utility Uniper. The deal commits Uniper to buy two million tonnes of LNG each year, marking the first major Canada‑Germany LNG supply contract.

The project received its provincial environmental‑assessment certificate in September 2025 and has been designated a priority project by Canada’s federal major‑projects office. A memorandum of understanding with BC Hydro provides 600 MW of hydro‑electric power from the Northwest Transmission Line expansion. Backers, including Houston‑based Western LNG, are seeking 80‑90 % of the plant’s 12 Mtpa capacity (about 9‑10 Mtpa) to trigger a final investment decision. Existing contracts with Shell, TotalEnergies and SEFE already cover seven Mtpa, leaving the remaining capacity to be secured.

Project leaders say the facility will be powered largely by hydroelectricity, making it one of the lowest‑emission LNG sources in the world. The agreement also underscores strengthening strategic energy ties between Canada and Germany.
