Ksi Lisims LNG project secures major German energy contract

Ksi Lisims LNG, a partnership involving Western LNG, Rockies LNG, and the Nisga’a Nation, has secured a binding sale and purchase agreement with Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE), a state-owned German energy company. Under the 20-year agreement, SEFE will purchase one million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum.

This deal brings the project's total completed binding agreements to 7 million mtpa, approximately 58 per cent of its planned 12 million mtpa production capacity. The floating liquefaction facility, proposed for the north coast of British Columbia near Prince Rupert, is scheduled to begin production in the early 2030s. The project aims to reach a final investment decision by the end of 2026.

Eva Clayton, president of the Nisga’a Lisims Government, stated that the agreement brings the project closer to construction and long-term revenue for the Nation. The facility, to be built on Nisga’a land off Pearse Island, has been flagged by the Canadian federal government’s Major Projects Office for potential fast-tracking.
