Książnica Cieszyńska to host cultural discussion series on Cieszyn's book heritage

Książnica Cieszyńska is launching a new series of discussion panels titled ‘Kulturowy kod Cieszyna’ (The Cultural Code of Cieszyn) to explore the role of books in the history and identity of the Cieszyn Silesia region.

Running from September to November, the five-part series will examine various aspects of local literary heritage, including the region's oldest libraries, the significance of religious texts in a multi-faith history, the connection between books and education, and the tradition of bibliophilia. The final session will focus on the most influential publications that shaped the region's culture.

The project, ‘Książka – kulturowe DNA Cieszyna’ (Book – the Cultural DNA of Cieszyn), is supported by funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The initiative aims to use historical collections and private libraries to gain insight into the daily lives, beliefs, and aspirations of the region's inhabitants across generations.
