KT joins NATO defense communications standardization project
KT has become the first South Korean telecommunications company to participate in the NATO Wireless Communications Standardization Project (NWCSP). The company is attending the 9th NWCSP meeting as a 5G and 6G standardization committee member to discuss the development of next-generation global defense communication standards.
The meeting, hosted by the South Korean Ministry of National Defense and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), is being held in Seoul from September 28 to October 2. Approximately 100 experts from government, defense, and telecommunications sectors are participating to discuss the application of 5G and 6G technologies in defense contexts.
KT aims to share its technical expertise and experience gained from commercial 5G defense projects. The discussions include reviewing standard documents for satellite communications and wireless backhaul, as well as seeking consensus on technical standards to ensure interoperability between different national communication systems.
