KT Rama Rao threatens padayatra over Nagarjuna Sagar water release
KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has issued a 10-day deadline to the Congress government to announce a schedule for releasing water through the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal. Rama Rao stated that if the government fails to provide a clear plan by September 14, he will lead a padayatra, or foot march, from Kodad to Haliya alongside thousands of farmers.
Addressing a farmers' protest in Miryalaguda, Rama Rao alleged that while the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir holds approximately 180 TMC of water, the current administration is refusing to release water into the Left Canal. He expressed concern for farmers facing uncertainty regarding irrigation for their crops.
Rama Rao also criticized the Congress government for failing to fulfill electoral promises, including loan waivers and financial assistance for farmers and agricultural laborers. He noted that the BRS would draw inspiration from a similar march led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in 2003 to press for these agricultural demands.
