Kütahya Municipality completes Ulu Cami Meydan Park renovation
Kütahya Municipality has completed the renovation of the Ulu Cami Meydan Park, a 3,250-square-meter area designed to preserve the city's historical texture while improving urban functionality. The project included renewing ground coverings, implementing landscape arrangements, and creating new seating areas for citizens.
To accommodate specific needs, the renovation introduced dedicated facilities for women, including restrooms, accessible restrooms, and an ablution area equipped with hot water. A sundial was also installed to complement the square's historical identity. Additionally, four small sales units will be established to support local tradespeople and the promotion of regional products.
Mayor Eyüp Kahveci noted that an initial plan for an underground parking lot was abandoned following consultations with the Conservation Board. The decision was made to avoid the use of fore-piling, which posed a risk to the foundations of the Ulu Cami. While this change resulted in a delay of approximately 1 to 1.5 years, the municipality prioritized the protection of the historic structure.
