KTAMS reports hunger limit of 47,568 TL for families of four

The Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KTAMS) has announced that the hunger limit for a family of four has reached 47,568 TL as of August 31. The poverty limit for the same family size is calculated at 256,567 TL.

According to KTAMS President Güven Bengihan, these figures were derived using nutritional patterns from the Ministry of Health's Department of Inpatient Treatment Institutions and price data provided by the Statistical Institute. The monthly food expenditure breakdown includes 12,569 TL for an adult woman, 12,860 TL for an adult man, 13,013 TL for a child aged 13-18, and 9,126 TL for a child aged 8-12.

Beyond food, the poverty limit accounts for significant costs such as transportation (40,460 TL), housing and utilities (37,484 TL), education (20,910 TL), and health (9,852 TL). Bengihan criticized current economic policies and argued that the 2015=100 base year Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket is outdated and fails to reflect modern consumption habits.
