KTFF Board announces new football regulations and player status rules

The Cyprus Turkish Football Association (KTFF) Board of Directors, chaired by Hasan Sertoğlu, has announced several regulatory changes affecting upcoming football seasons.

Regarding player status, the board granted a one-time exception for the 2026-2027 season. Foreign players who have not completed four years and Turkish citizens who have not completed three years due to age adjustments in the A2 Leagues may apply for Local-Foreign Status (YYS).

Additionally, professional players in the Super Lig and 1. Lig must complete their residency and residence permit processes with relevant authorities by October 9, 2026. Failure to provide proof to the KTFF will result in license cancellation and contract termination, granting players free agent status.

New coaching and staff regulations include: • Technical directors and coaches are limited to a maximum of two club contracts starting from the 2026-2027 season. • From the 2027-2028 season, the presence of a goalkeeper coach and a GPS-Athletic Performance coach will be mandatory in the Super Lig.

Finally, starting from the 2026-2027 season, clubs in the BTM 1. Lig and BTM 2. Lig will be required to pay a participation fee equivalent to one gross minimum wage.
