KTM considers contract buyout for Maverick Viñales
KTM is reportedly considering a financial buyout of Maverick Viñales’ contract with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 satellite team following a breakdown in their professional relationship. While Viñales has publicly expressed a desire to finish the season, reports suggest the situation between the rider and the Austrian manufacturer is “deeply entrenched and really messed up.”
Viñales has accused KTM of failing to honor a guarantee regarding a 2027 factory ride. His absence from recent racing, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, was officially attributed to a recurring shoulder ligament injury sustained during the German Grand Prix. During his absence, Pol Espargaró has been filling in as a replacement.
The upcoming Grand Prix at MotorLand Aragón will be a decisive moment for the team. It remains uncertain whether Viñales will return to the KTM RC16 or if Espargaró will continue to ride. Espargaró has noted that while he is gaining confidence, his continued participation depends on Viñales' physical recovery.
