KTM develops new bicylindrical 490 Duke prototype

KTM is developing a new bicylindrical naked motorcycle platform, with a prototype of the future 490 Duke recently spotted undergoing testing in Europe. The upcoming model is designed to bridge the gap between the 390 Duke and KTM’s larger displacement motorcycles.

The prototype features a steel trellis frame where the engine acts as a structural member, utilizing a bolted trellis subframe rather than a composite one. While the current test unit uses temporary components from the 390 Duke, such as the headlight and dashboard, the project aims for a bicylindrical engine with a displacement under 500 cc and an estimated power output between 55 and 65 CV.

Development is ongoing, with reports suggesting a public presentation could occur toward the end of 2027, potentially debuting at EICMA, followed by a commercial market launch in early 2028.
