KTM Secures Approval to Replace Faulty MotoGP Engine Parts Ahead of Aragon GP
KTM has obtained permission from the other MotoGP manufacturers, via the MSMA and IRTA, to open its sealed RC16 engines and replace a defective high‑stress component that has caused sudden engine shutdowns. The issue forced rider Pedro Acosta to retire while leading the Catalan Grand Prix and contributed to a serious crash involving Alex Marquez.
Initially only Aprilia supported the request, but after the summer break the remaining manufacturers granted approval on safety grounds. KTM will carry out the engine work under technical supervision within the week before the Aragon Grand Prix, but the fix will not be ready for the upcoming Silverstone round, where interim measures will limit engine performance.
