KTM to maintain motorcycle production in Austria
KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister has dismissed speculation that the motorcycle manufacturer will relocate its production to India following its acquisition by Bajaj. Neumeister confirmed that manufacturing will remain in Mattighofen, Austria, emphasizing a clear commitment to the country.
The announcement follows a period of financial instability for KTM, which faced significant debt and layoffs over the last two years. However, the company reports a recent turnaround, achieving profitability for the first time in nearly two years and selling nearly 100,000 motorcycles in the first half of 2026.
While Bajaj took control of KTM in 2025, the Austrian headquarters will maintain autonomy in management and product development, supported by a team of over 440 engineers. Neumeister also noted that after discussions with Bajaj, the company secured approval to continue its participation in MotoGP for the next five years with an independent team.
