KTMB prepares new electric trains for 2027 as commuter service resumes after outage

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) announced that the first of twelve new electric commuter train sets is slated to begin operation in February 2027, pending completion of technical installation, safety certification and testing mandated by the Agency Pengangkutan Awam Darat (APAD). The initial set will arrive this year in a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) form, with the remaining eleven sets to be assembled progressively at the Batu Gajah depot. Once in service, the trains will boost capacity and service quality on the KTM Komuter Northern line, with possible deployment to other routes if demand arises.

Earlier this week, KTML experienced a service disruption on the Pelabuhan Klang‑KL Sentral corridor after an overhead line fault between Subang Jaya and KL Sentral caused trains to terminate prematurely. Power was restored at 10:39 AM, and full commuter operations resumed, allowing passengers to travel the full route without transfers. KTMB issued an apology for the inconvenience and deployed relief trains during the outage.
