KTMMOB President criticizes stadium project timing and transparency
Görkem Çelik, President of the Union of Cyprus Turkish Chambers of Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB), has criticized a new stadium project, suggesting its timing appears to be part of an election campaign. While expressing support for providing athletes and youth with modern, international-standard facilities, Çelik emphasized that public investments must be based on transparency, correct prioritization, and the involvement of technical institutions.
Çelik argued that the project's necessity analysis, financing model, and technical documentation should be made public. He stated that the election calendar should not take precedence over the planning and implementation schedules of public investments. Furthermore, he criticized the current approach of presenting completed projects to professional chambers for opinion rather than involving them during the initial planning stages.
He called for a comprehensive evaluation of site selection, transportation, infrastructure, urban fabric, security, and operating costs. Çelik maintained that construction should not begin until authorized technical institutions are involved and all necessary review and approval processes are finalized.
