KTOEÖS files police complaint over Güzelyurt school assault

The Cyprus Turkish Middle Education Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS) has filed a formal complaint with the General Directorate of Police regarding a sexual assault incident at Güzelyurt Vocational High School. The union is demanding an investigation into whether any public, legal, or private individuals neglected their duties, thereby allowing the harm to occur.

KTOEÖS President Ahmet Karaoğulları stated that the state holds primary responsibility for the safety of children and youth. He specifically called for an inquiry into the employment process of the perpetrator, who received a four-year prison sentence, and whether the Ministry of Education and relevant departments conducted necessary oversight regarding the individual's contact with students at the school.

Legal counsel Cansu Nazlı noted that the perpetrator has already been tried and sentenced by the Nicosia Assize Court.
