KTOEÖS to release reports on education system concerns
The Cyprus Turkish Middle Education Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS) has announced it will release research reports regarding what it describes as ‘fake’ full-day education. The union plans to hold a press conference on Wednesday at 11:00 at its headquarters, followed by an evaluation of the current state of education at Şehit Hüseyin Ruso Middle School on Thursday at 12:00.
KTOEÖS criticizes the government's implementation of full-day education over the last three years, arguing it fails to meet necessary standards. The union highlights several systemic issues, including a lack of staff and budgets in schools, and claims that despite public contributions to an earthquake fund, 70% of schools have not yet been reinforced.
Additional concerns raised by the union include the use of container classrooms, overcrowded classes, and a nearly 66% increase in peer bullying and violence over the last five years. The union also noted that the proportion of private schools has exceeded 20% and that vocational high schools are losing their mission to train skilled workers.
