KTÖS calls for urgent student transport inspections

Burak Maviş, General Secretary of KTÖS, has called for urgent inspections of student transportation vehicles before the new school year begins on September 14. Citing data from May 2025, Maviş noted that approximately 23,000 students are transported by 815 vehicles.

Maviş criticized the current student transportation regulations, stating they have not been updated since 2015 and are outdated. He highlighted missing safety requirements such as seat belts on every seat, age limits for school buses, tachographs, automatic fire detection and suppression systems, and child-prevention systems. He also called for unannounced road inspections.

In response to recent tragedies, Maviş submitted 14 questions to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and the General Directorate of Police. He demanded transparency regarding the number of students, routes, and vehicles to be used in the upcoming academic year. He emphasized that public administration must identify risks and take preventive measures rather than reacting only after accidents occur.
