KTU study examines modern reading habits and digital influence

A study conducted by researchers at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) examines contemporary reading habits across different age groups. The research, which surveyed 200 respondents, highlights how digital communication shapes reading patterns.

Respondents aged 30–49 spend the most time reading, averaging over 15 hours per week in Lithuanian. In contrast, the group under 29 spends approximately 9 hours per week reading in Lithuanian, with a significant portion of that time dedicated to internet content. For the 30–49 age bracket, professional and daily digital communication, particularly email, plays a major role in reading volume, with individuals spending 3.5 to 4 hours weekly on email.

The study also notes that reading in English is not limited to younger generations. Respondents aged 30–39 spend about 8.5 hours per week reading in English, while those aged 40–49 spend nearly 8 hours.
