Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce seeks music tariff reforms

The Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce has met with MESAM-MSG officials to discuss the high costs and structure of music licensing fees affecting local businesses. Representatives from the chamber's Food and Beverage Professional Committee presented several proposals to alleviate the economic burden on businesses, particularly those operating during the tourism season.

Key proposals include implementing discounted and seasonal tariffs specifically for Kuşadası businesses. Additionally, the chamber requested that fees be calculated based on the actual area where music is played rather than the total square footage listed on a business license. Committee members noted that current rates in Turkey are among the highest in the European Union and should be re-evaluated to reflect the nature of businesses, such as restaurants that use music primarily as background audio.

To simplify administrative processes, the chamber also called for a unified payment system. Currently, businesses must make separate payments to various music associations; the committee suggested that all music unions should operate under a single umbrella to allow for a single point of payment.
