Kuala Kangsar court orders psychiatric evaluation for teen accused of mother's death
A 15-year-old boy with multiple disabilities has been ordered by the Kuala Kangsar Magistrates’ Court to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta. The teenager is accused of causing the death of his 49-year-old disabled mother, Nor Ainon Omar, in Kampung Cheh Kati on September 23.
Magistrate Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin issued the order after observing that the accused did not understand the charges read to him and noting his existing mental health record. The court did not record a plea during the proceedings.
The teenager faces a charge under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a potential fine. The victim was reportedly found with significant blood loss due to a sharp object wound. The case has been set for a follow-up mention on October 22 to review the psychiatric report.
