Kuala Linggi fisherman association tax penalty issue addressed
Mohammad Mukhlisul Mubin Julasapiyah, a Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Kuala Linggi state assembly seat, claims to have facilitated a resolution for a financial crisis facing the Melaka Barat Area Fishermen Association. The association had been burdened by a RM70,000 tax penalty and approximately RM400,000 in tax arrears for seven years.
Following a meeting with the association's General Manager, Mukhlis brought the matter to the attention of the Political Secretary to the Finance Minister, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim. The issue was subsequently escalated to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who reportedly signed a letter to allow for follow-up action regarding the penalty resolution. While the association has already paid approximately RM380,000 of the arrears, leaving a balance of about RM10,000, the RM70,000 penalty remained the primary obstacle.
