Kuala Lumpur authorities find 25 commercial drivers failed drug tests
The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) conducted a joint drug enforcement operation involving the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) through September. Out of 341 commercial vehicle drivers screened, 25 failed the initial urine tests. These individuals include 23 freight drivers, one tourism vehicle driver, and one public service vehicle driver.
In a recent enforcement action at the Duta Toll Plaza, 48 drivers were screened, with two testing positive for methamphetamine. Those individuals were detained under the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further investigation. If addiction is legally confirmed, the JPJ may suspend or revoke their driving licenses under the Road Transport Act 1987.
The operation, which involved 38 personnel and the inspection of 275 commercial vehicles, also resulted in 62 notices issued for various violations. These included expired vehicle taxes, lack of proper driving or freight licenses, expired insurance, and vehicle maintenance issues such as improper tire condition and tinted windows.
