Kuala Lumpur marathon participants injured in motorcycle collision
Two participants of the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon 2026 were injured after being struck by a motorcycle on Jalan Munshi Abdullah. The incident occurred around 6:15 AM during the event.
According to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, a 21-year-old motorcyclist and a 19-year-old passenger entered the race route, which had been cordoned off with cones. Despite being ordered to stop by officers on duty, the rider reportedly attempted to flee by driving against the flow of traffic, subsequently hitting two runners.
The victims include a 50-year-old woman with a neck injury and a 41-year-old man with injuries to his hand and right knee. Initial alcohol screenings of the rider showed a reading of 164 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of breath. The rider has been remanded for three days, and the passenger for two days, as investigations continue under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Penal Code.
