Kuala Pilah student death investigation leads to two arrests

Police are investigating the death of Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Bin Shahril, a 14-year-old Form Two student who died following an incident at the SMK Za'aba hostel in Kuala Pilah on September 25. Two 16-year-old male students have been detained and remanded to assist with investigations.

Preliminary police findings indicate that a second suspect kicked the victim six times before calling him to meet the first suspect. The victim was reportedly struck with hands and a rubber pipe. While five students have claimed they were previously bullied by the first suspect, initial statements from the victim's family suggest he had not reported being bullied.

Malaysia's Ministry of Education has ordered an immediate audit by the Inspectorate of Schools (Jemaah Nazir) to review safety protocols and compliance at the school. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the ministry will cooperate fully with the Royal Malaysia Police and emphasized that no parties will be protected if investigations reveal misconduct or illegal activities. The ministry is also providing psychosocial support and counseling to the victim's family and the school community.
