Kuala Terengganu contractors scammed by fake KPKT tender offers
Two electrical contractors in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, were deceived by fraudsters posing as officials of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). One 68‑year‑old contractor lost RM152,550 after being asked to pay for three power‑generator units and later six additional units, with promises of a profit from a solar lamp project. A 52‑year‑old contractor suffered a loss of RM50,400 after making similar payments for generator equipment after receiving a falsified KPKT email and WhatsApp communications.
Police in Kuala Terengganu, led by Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, investigated both cases under Section 420 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust. The victims reported the scams after auditors raised concerns, and the suspects could not be contacted for clarification.
