Oslo student charged with attempted murder after Kuben school stabbing

A 17-year-old student has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at Kuben videregående skole in Oslo. The victim, a 16-year-old student, was seriously injured during the incident but is no longer in critical condition.

Records from the Oslo District Court reveal that the suspect has a history of violent crime and weapons offenses. Previous convictions include involvement in a robbery involving a machete and a pistol when he was 15, as well as multiple instances of carrying knives and machetes. He had previously received youth sentences for these offenses.

The incident has sparked political debate regarding school safety and privacy. Eivor Evenrud, a prominent school politician for the Oslo Labour Party, called for immediate measures such as bag searches and mandatory student frisking, stating, ‘Personvern er ikke det viktigste her’ (Privacy is not the most important thing here). This follows other violent incidents at the school, including a shooting attempt in January.
