Kuching community fitness event draws over 1,200 participants
The Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang 2026 community fitness programme drew 1,237 participants to the Bangunan Baitulmakmur parking area in Petra Jaya, Kuching, on Sunday. The event featured aerobics, aerodance, and Zumba sessions for various age groups.
Launched by Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, the programme was held in conjunction with the DBKU Car Free Morning and the What About Kuching (WAK) Festival 2026. Dr Abdul Rahman emphasized that state development should be measured by the health, happiness, and quality of life of the population, rather than just economic growth and infrastructure.
The initiative aims to encourage regular physical activity and social interaction while promoting sustainable urban living through the use of public spaces for recreation, such as walking and cycling.
