Jakarta police investigate mall assault and sexual violence allegations

Police in Jakarta are investigating two separate incidents of violence and alleged sexual misconduct.

In the first case, Polda Metro Jaya has arrested a 44-year-old man, identified as RS, following a viral video showing him kicking a woman from behind at the Senayan City mall food court. Authorities are currently collecting evidence and questioning witnesses to determine the motive behind the assault.

In a second developing case, singer Betrand Peto is facing allegations of sexual violence reported by a woman identified as ANW. The victim recently underwent a four-hour psychological assessment at the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to evaluate her mental state.

Legal counsel for ANW has reported that the victim is experiencing digital terror and doxing, including the leaking of her personal information and workplace details on social media. Consequently, the victim's legal team has sought protection from Komnas Perempuan to ensure her safety during the ongoing investigation. Lawyers are currently urging the police to conduct a crime scene reconstruction at the location where the alleged incident occurred.
