Kuching road closures announced for 2026 marathon

A total of 26 roads and junctions in Kuching will face temporary closures or diversions to facilitate the Kuching Marathon 2026. The traffic measures are scheduled to take effect from noon on September 26 until 10:00 am on September 27.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the closures will occur in three distinct stages. The first stage begins at midday on September 26, involving Lebuh Wayang, Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and Carpenter Street to allow for venue preparations. The second stage involves the closure of the Jalan Barrack and Jalan Pearl junction from 10:00 pm on September 26 until 10:00 am the following day.

The final stage of closures and diversions will run from 12:01 am to 10:00 am on September 27, affecting 22 additional locations along the marathon route. These include various junctions and roundabouts such as Jalan Wawasan, Jalan McDougall, the Courthouse Roundabout, SESCo Roundabout, and the Samariang Roundabout.

Police have advised motorists to plan alternative routes and requested that the public refrain from parking vehicles along road shoulders to minimize traffic congestion during the event.
