Ogun 2027 Election: PDP Gains Iyabo Obasanjo as Both Parties Announce Deputy Gov Candidates

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Kudirat Adegunwa‑Balogun, chief financial officer of Rite Foods, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, running alongside Senate candidate Solomon Olamilekan Adeola. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unveiled veteran journalist Yemi Kolapo (also reported as Lateefah Sowunmi‑Kolapo) as its deputy candidate, paired with governorship hopeful Ladi Adebutu.

Former Ogun Central senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of ex‑president Olusegun Obasanjo, left the APC and rejoined the PDP less than a week after resigning, citing disrespect from party leaders. She returned to the PDP during the party’s deputy‑governor unveiling ceremony in Abeokuta.

Separately, African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Sabo Nakudu in Jigawa State warned he would leave Nigeria if the APC wins the 2027 general elections, highlighting broader national tensions ahead of the vote.
