Kudus Regency to change anniversary date to August 23 starting 2027
The Kudus Regency Government in Central Java plans to change the official anniversary date of the regency from September 23 to August 23, effective starting in 2027.
This decision follows historical research and expert recommendations based on an inscription found in the mihrab of the Al-Aqsa Mosque (also known as the Menara Kudus Mosque). The inscription is dated 19 Rajab 956 Hijriah, which converts to August 23, 1549.
Regent Sam’ani Intakoris stated that the shift aims to align the anniversary more closely with the historical identity of Kudus. The government is working to formalize this change through local regulations. During the 477th anniversary commemoration, the Regent also emphasized the 'Urup Nguripi' spirit, calling for community collaboration and synergy to support regional development.
