Kudus Tari Lajur Caping Kalo dance sets MURI record
A colossal performance of the Tari Lajur Caping Kalo dance held at the Kudus Regency Pendopo on September 26, 2026, has successfully set a Museum Rekor-Dunia Indonesia (MURI) record. The event featured between 670 and 675 dancers performing simultaneously to commemorate the 477th anniversary of Kudus City.
The initiative aims to revitalize interest in the Caping Kalo, a traditional female head covering from Kudus. Due to a declining number of bamboo weavers, the craft has become increasingly rare in daily life, appearing mostly in ceremonial contexts. The Tari Lajur Caping Kalo dance was developed to represent the movement of bamboo processing into the traditional headwear, serving as a medium to reintroduce its cultural history to the public.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the Yayasan Kebudayaan dan Bantuan Nusantara (YKBN), PT Nojorono Tobacco International, and the Kudus Regency Government. The event was attended by Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Culture, Giring Ganesha Djumaryo, and the Regent of Kudus, Sam'ani Intakoris.
