Kulai child drowns in water catchment pond

A six year old boy, identified as Essikandar Putra Rohaizad, drowned in a water catchment pond near Taman Sungai Mas in Kulai, Johor.

Kulai District Police Chief ACP Tan Seng Lee stated that the child is believed to have gone to the pond alone to fish. The boy's residence was located approximately 50 meters from the site. Investigations revealed that the child's parents had left for work at 6:30 am, leaving the boy sleeping with his 17 year old sister.

At approximately 10:00 am, the mother was notified by an acquaintance that the child was found unconscious in the pond. Fire and Rescue Department personnel recovered the boy, who was later pronounced dead at Kulai Hospital at 11:15 am. A fishing rod was found near the scene.

An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as drowning. Police found no evidence of criminal activity, and the case has been classified as sudden death. Authorities have urged parents and guardians to closely supervise children near high risk areas such as ponds, rivers, and other bodies of water.
