Kumakoguma Nursery School provides specialized childcare in Suginami

Kumakoguma Nursery School, a company-led facility located in Suginami, Tokyo, provides specialized care for children aged 0 to 2. Operating out of a renovated former nursing home, the facility emphasizes a home-like environment for its 14 residents.

The school utilizes a mixed-age group approach, allowing younger children to observe older peers and older children to develop nurturing skills. To support working parents, the school offers a “hands-free” service where essential items like diapers and bedding are provided by the facility. Additionally, the school collaborates with physical therapists to tailor developmental plans for each child.

Community integration is a key component of the school’s operations, featuring annual Halloween events with local businesses and sourcing bread from neighborhood bakeries for school meals. The school also focuses on food education, involving children in activities such as harvesting vegetables and preparing meals suited to their specific developmental stages.
