Kumamoto and Aomori regions in Japan lift thunderstorm warnings as heavy rain alerts persist

The Kumamoto Meteorological Observatory announced on 16 July 2026 that thunderstorm warnings for numerous municipalities—including Kumamoto City, Yatsushiro, Arao, Tamana, Yamagata, and others—were lifted. The alert update listed each area where the warning was cancelled.

In Aomori, the Aomori Meteorological Observatory issued a technical advisory on 14 July 2026 warning of heavy rain and lightning from the night of 15 July into the morning of 16 July. The forecast indicated possible heavy‑rain warnings in the Tsugaru area, Shikoku, and northern districts, and advised farmers to implement drainage, protect crops, and secure livestock facilities against flooding and wind damage.
