Kumamoto earthquake: Police to install 950 security cameras
Yoshinobu Kusunoki, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, visited earthquake-stricken areas in Kumamoto Prefecture, including Yatsushiro and Hikawa, to encourage police officers deployed from across the country. Currently, approximately 2,400 officers are working to maintain order and prevent crimes that exploit the disaster.
To enhance public safety, authorities plan to install approximately 950 security cameras in areas where crime is a concern, such as near evacuation centers. This follows the confirmation of six crimes, including theft and burglaries, occurring in the disaster zones since the earthquake. Commissioner Kusunoki emphasized that ensuring public safety is a prerequisite for the recovery and reconstruction of the affected regions.
