In response to the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto earthquake, which registered a maximum intensity of 7, a range of relief measures have been launched.

The Kikuchi Hot‑Spring Association opened four facilities – Mochiuki Ryokan, Kikuchi Grand Hotel, Hoorai‑kan and Seiryu‑so – free of charge for all victims, including those from areas with contaminated tap water.

Osaka Prefecture announced a donation campaign beginning 3 August, with all proceeds to be transferred to Kumamoto Prefecture. The National Association of Old Houses also opened a donation account, set to accept contributions until 20 August 2026.

The Japanese Red Cross Society dispatched a team of 12 medical staff to the disaster zone, began accepting charitable donations on 31 July, and shipped more than 700 camping mats and other bedding to improve shelter conditions. It warned evacuees about the risk of deep‑vein thrombosis (economy‑class syndrome) during prolonged immobility and advised hydration, regular movement and compression stockings.

Iseikai International General Hospital sent an administrative staff member to support the disaster medical assistance team from 31 July to 2 August.
