Kumamoto, Japan Sees Magnitude 3.8 Earthquake, Max Intensity 2

On July 30 at 09:05 local time, the Japanese Meteorological Agency reported a magnitude 3.8 earthquake with a shallow depth of 10 km whose epicenter was in the Kumamoto region of Japan. The strongest observed seismic intensity (shindo) was 2 in Kumamoto's West and South districts, while intensity 1 was recorded in Kumamoto's Central and North districts and in several municipalities of neighboring Miyazaki Prefecture.

No tsunami warning was issued for the event. The agency posted detailed maps of the shaking and urged the public to stay alert for aftershocks.
