Kumamoto National College of Technology manages earthquake recovery
Kumamoto National College of Technology is managing recovery efforts following the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake. While all students and staff have been confirmed safe, the Yatsushiro Campus sustained significant damage, particularly to the dormitory and library. The dormitory experienced flooding that damaged personal belongings and kitchen facilities, while the library suffered from collapsed bookshelves.
One month after the earthquake, the college has confirmed that buildings are safe for entry following emergency inspections. Professional damage assessments are scheduled for mid-September. The institution is working toward a goal of reopening the dormitory by late September and is planning a hybrid model of in-person and online classes for the upcoming semester to ensure educational continuity.
