Kumanovo reports rise in stomach virus cases

The number of patients suffering from stomach virus symptoms has increased in Kumanovo. The infectious disease department at the Kumanovo General Hospital reports approximately 100 patients seeking help daily.

Patients of all ages, including children, adults, and the elderly, are presenting with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and high fever. While most patients receive outpatient therapy, a small number require hospitalization. Dr. Valentina Xhartovska, head of the infectious department, noted that rising temperatures and climate changes over the last two months have contributed to the increase, particularly during travel and large group gatherings.

Medical officials highlighted that dehydration is a significant risk, especially for children. Health recommendations include maintaining strict personal hygiene, ensuring food hygiene by cleaning utensils and preparation areas, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly, and avoiding direct contact with sick individuals. Patients are advised to consume light foods, plenty of fluids, and probiotics.
