Kumanovo students face continued delays in new school building
Students at the Sami Frashëri Gymnasium and the Albanian parallel classes of Nace Bugjioni in Kumanovo will not be able to move into a new school building this September. Despite promises from the government and the Kumanovo Municipality spanning over a decade, the construction project remains unfinished.
Students currently continue their education in improvised classrooms located within a former factory. They report significant difficulties, including a lack of specialized laboratories, adequate spaces, and sports halls. Students also noted environmental issues such as excessive dust and poor insulation, which make learning conditions difficult, particularly during the winter.
The Ministry of Education and Science stated that the project has stalled due to a lack of financial resources. Deputy Minister of Education and Science Driton Sulejmani indicated that the completion of the project may depend on a budget rebalance or the 2027 budget, though some work continues in areas where funding is currently available.
