Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly orders Abrepo Junction evacuation

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a final ultimatum to traders, garage operators, and businesses located at the Abrepo Junction to vacate the area by Sunday, October 4, 2026. This directive is part of the preparatory works for Phase 1 of the Suame Interchange Project, which aims to improve traffic flow through a three-tier interchange at Suame and overpasses at the Abrepo and Krofrom junctions.

Starting Thursday, October 8, 2026, a demolition and enforcement team will begin removing unauthorized structures and any remaining items within the project corridor. The KMA stated it will not be held responsible for the loss or damage of property left behind after the deadline. The project also involves widening the Eastern and Western Bypass Roads and relocating utility infrastructure, including pipelines from the Ghana Water Company Limited and lines from the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Traders requiring alternative locations have been directed to relocate to the Racecourse Market, while garage operators have been advised to contact the market's Works Engineer to identify suitable alternative spaces.

Separately, the KMA has postponed a scheduled clean-up exercise in Alabar to Saturday, October 10, 2026. The postponement is due to the New Patriotic Party National Congress taking place in Kumasi, requiring administrative adjustments for metropolitan coordination.
