Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to transition to digital advertising boards in 2027
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) plans to transition from traditional static billboards to digital advertising boards starting in 2027. Mayor Richard Ofori Boadi Agyemang announced the initiative during a meeting with 28 registered advertisers, citing the need to modernize and regulate the city's outdoor advertising landscape.
The Mayor noted that the current billboard system has become disorganized, with structures of varying sizes placed haphazardly along major roads. This lack of coordination affects the city's aesthetics and can obstruct motorists and pedestrians. To address this, the KMA intends to reduce the total number of billboards and implement strict guidelines regarding size, design, and placement.
Specific regulations will be applied to key areas, including the Airport Roundabout, Sofoline, Ahodwo, and the Bekwai Roundabout, with separate specifications for the Kumasi Zoo, Kejetia, and the Central Business District. Additionally, no billboards will be permitted along the Ahodwo-Santasi stretch until the current road dualization project is finished. The Assembly also warned it would remove dilapidated, oversized, or aged structures, as well as those belonging to operators with unpaid fees.
